There's no ties
As far as anybody knows, no surprise
As far as anybody knows, you and I
As far as anybody knows, have no ties
And as far as they know, my will is bulletproof
And I'd be no good to no one
If they knew the truth
That you are my weakness, my weakness

My watchers know by now that in

's Simpsonverse, Father Sean and Ruth Powers are a couple....
relax!!! They were a couple long before Sean went on to become a Catholic priest. Circumstances drove them apart, and to keep himself from sinking into a family tradition of severe alcholism, Sean turned to the Church. Ruth moved from town to town, hoping to see Sean again some day.
She gave up hope of finding Sean again, and married the man Laura and her older sister Riversaw knew as their father--Max Powers.
Here, the canon and the fan-verse match up really well--Max turned out to be a drunken, total deadbeat. Ruth divorced him, and took his T-Bird in lieu of child support (which Max never bothered to pay anyway). Her life eventually lead her to Springfield where a happening young Irish priest was headmaster at a school her neighbors' kid went to.
...And so, during a visit to his student's home, he noticed an awfully familiar woman coming out of the house next door....
Their recognition was instant. Their love...never faded.

There are a lot of firsts in this one. It is the first time I have ever drawn Father Sean. It is the first time I deviated from a reference shot and been happy with the result. (Sean's smile in the ref was a little too goofy for the seriousness of this setting.) It is the first time I've used a standard #2 pencil to draw an outline (since I've been posting here at least!) and it's the first time I've included a portion of a lyric in a piece.
I'm tremendously happy about how this turned out. The last time I did a drawing, I did the basic sketch in a 6H pencil. That thing's lead is so hard that it's nearly impossible to erase cleanly. It's also impossible for me to use a harder pencil lead without leaving noticeable gouges in the paper. So, this piece is gouge free and relatively clean! (I did goof a bit and sharpen a colored pencil over it. But that mistake got covered up quite nicely when I finished coloring the background.)

You just gotta love Sean and Ruth ^^

Something about Ruth would bring about a genuinely self-assured side in Moe. When she's concerned, there's no gruff bluster involved. Only real inner strength, and I believe that would surprise even him!
One thing I forgot (for now!)to say in my artist's comments was this piece is also the first time I've done a real art trade! I've done three edits to the thing, and forgot to add it every time. If I do a fourth edit, it'll go in there.
And, thanks for the compliment! I still don't consider myself a visual artist of any kind, but I suppose "budding cartoonist" might apply better than "writer" does any more. Haven't written so much as an essay in over three years!
